What is the Best Location for a Fountain?

It is best to choose a location before choosing a fountain. Consider the space you have and decide how you want the fountain to interact with that space. For example, if you have a large, blank wall, you’ll want to take that into account to ensure that it does not dwarf your fountain.

Also, depending on whether your fountain will be indoors or out, there are some additional factors to consider:

    Indoor Fountains

Indoor fountains come in a wide range of sizes and types from table-top to a full-size wall or basin fountain. Please give us a call if you’re concerned about ensuring the stability of an indoor fountain.

  • When placing a fountain indoors, keep in mind that there is always the possibility of over-splash and misting which could damage your other furnishings.

    Outdoor Fountains

The placement of outdoor fountains also depends on their type:

  • Basin fountains need to be placed on a soft surface such as sand or gravel to help the fountain settle and level off.
  • Pedestal fountains, on the other hand, require a firm foundation – mainly concrete. If the fountain is hollow on the inside, ensure that the ground provides a tight seal as porous ground covering, such as dirt or sand, can allow moisture to seep up into the fountain and damage its interior.
  • Wall fountains can have various foundation requirements, but most will need to be bracketed firmly to the wall. If placing the fountain against a stucco wall, make sure that the bracket(s) come in contact with the studs.
