Big heavy trunk plant to 60' tall, with up to 50' spread composed of a great many gracefully arching fronds. Grows slowly until it forms trunk, then speeds up a little. Young plants do well in pots for many years, looking something like pineapples. Growers well on slopes or large spaces. Hardy to 20 degree F.
